Hello there, I'm Penelope. I've been at the shelter for quite a number of years. I was dropped off as a stray. I've seen my friends come and go and it's starting to affect me just a bit. I'm patiently waiting my turn, but some days it's harder to be optimistic. When I first came here things were a lot different. I was in a cage 20hrs a day and it wasn't very easy to make friends or become trusting. Once the shelter changed it's policies and we were out all day, I had to readjust again. It was very overwhelming to be surrounded by people and cats of all different personalities. My first response was to be on the defense. I didn't want anyone coming too close to me, so I chose to spend most of my time hanging up on the cat trees. It gave me the opportunity to see what what going on in the room. I took my time making friends. Sometimes I would swat at people if they spent too much time petting me. I just got overwhelmed so quickly. Now my tolerance has definitely gone up and I enjoy having people come over and spend time with me. I'm pretty sure once I'm in a home and comfortable that I am with a family that loves me and is not going to abandon me, I will become a very important member of the family. I know I can do it, I just want someone to come and give me a chance. I'm tired of feeling sad every time I get looked over for adoption. I hope there is someone out there that will give me a chance. If you love me, I will love you in return. *Penelope would be o.k. with older children that have had experience with cats.
